Seminar summary

On March 16, 2020, the Prime Minister announced measures that will restrict business and activities as well as air travel to Canadians and residents to protect Canada from the outbreak of COVID-19. These measures may have some serious effect on the legal and care provider professionals and individuals associated with related industries. It’s time to learn and apply the practice and professionalism related guidelines and directions seriously.

This seminar will cover common questions about the current Government, Courts and Regulators, including policies and practise directions, restrictions, professional and legal obligations, and other impacts due to COVID-19.

Areas to Cover:

Justice Libman’s Presentation:

  • Transiting into virtual practice in the legal services profession
  • The impact of COVID-19 on courts, particularly for criminal and quasi-criminal offences
  • Teaching and being a student in law and paralegal programs during COVID-19

Mr. Michael Huynh, Director of Professional Conduct, ICCRC

Change in operations at ICCRC owing to COVID-19

    • Measures taken by the ICCRC as a regulatory body to support and guide RCICs during COVID-19

Professional Obligations to protect clients’ interests and to comply with regulatory matters

    Ms. Leslie Jansson’s Presentation

    • As a care provider, how do I talk to my children/teens about COVID-19 and its impact?
    • As a front line support worker delivering services remotely, how can I help clients deal with the psychological effects of COVID-19 related isolation?
    • Who are the most vulnerable and at-risk from isolation associated with COVID-19? What supports are available to those who are marginalized, are survivors of domestic abuse, are mentally ill or who find themselves homeless?

    Mr. M. Watto’s Presentation

Professionalism:  (Joint Presentation by All Educators)
