Seminar summary

The definition and application of criminal offences vary in the Canadian Criminal Code compared to the IRPA.

This course aims to provide practical and legal guidance to Immigration Practitioners to understand the decision-making process of the managers and officers at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

This course will also cover types of offences and charges under the Criminal Code and the collateral consequences on Immigration status.

  • The difference between charge and conviction
  • The difference between the crime committed and conviction
  • A summary and application of section 34, section 35, subsection 36(1) or section 37 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA)
