What each regulator requires, when it is due, and what to keep in case you are audited. Find your section below.

Four things every regulator has in common

You declare your own hours. CPD House provides the courses, the agendas and the records. The declaration to your regulator is yours to make, within your own reporting period.

You keep your own records. You are not usually asked to submit anything at the point of declaring, but you may be asked to produce records later if you are audited.

An hour attended once counts once. Where a session appears in more than one bundle, or is recognised by more than one regulator, you may claim it once with each regulator that recognises it, but not twice with the same one.

Content must fit your scope of practice. Regulators recognise CPD only where the subject matter is relevant to what you are licensed to do. A bundle built for another licence class may contain hours that do not count for you.

This page is a guide, not the rule

Requirements and deadlines are set by your regulator and can change. Always confirm your own obligation and reporting period directly with them before relying on anything here. Links to each regulator are given in the sections below.

Reporting period. 1 January to 31 December.
Complete by. 31 December.
Report by. 31 March the following year, through the LSO Portal.
Carry over. Hours are not carried over to the next year.

Substantive hours do not require accreditation but must be relevant to your practice. Professionalism hours must come from an accredited provider, and substantive hours can never fill a Professionalism gap.

Declaration. Made to the Law Society of British Columbia.

CPD House is an Accredited CPD Provider with the LSBC for professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, practice management and substantive law. The category split BC requires differs in structure from Ontario's, so confirm your own obligation before relying on a bundle to satisfy it.

RCICs and RISIAs

RCIC: 16 CPD hours per cycle
RISIA: 6 CPD hours per cycle
Each includes a Professionalism (Ethics) component

Reporting period. 1 July to 30 June.
Complete and attest by. 30 June.

Consultants holding the RCIC-IRB specialisation carry the same 16 hour requirement as the general RCIC class. CICC recognises CPD only where the content aligns with your scope of practice, which differs between the RCIC and RISIA classes.

If you hold more than one designation

The reporting years do not line up. The Law Society year ends 31 December; the CICC period runs 1 July to 30 June. A session attended in October falls in the 2026 Law Society year and the 2026 to 2027 CICC period, so the same hour can be claimed with each regulator that recognises it, in different reporting years. Keep one record per regulator rather than one combined list, and check which of your sessions carry more than one approval.

Your end of year checklist

Work through this before you file your declaration, whichever regulator you report to. It takes a few minutes and it is what you will be glad of if you are audited.

STEP 1

Verify your hours

Confirm you have reached the total your regulator requires for the current period.
Check the category split separately: totals can be met while a category is still short.
Confirm your accredited Professionalism or Ethics component, and any mandatory EDI hour within it.
Check that no hour has been counted twice within the same regulator's return.

STEP 2

Gather your documentation

Download the agenda for every course you attended. Regulators use agendas to verify timing, format and educational content.
Save any completion certificate you generated.
Keep your invoices as secondary proof of registration and payment.
Store all of it somewhere you will still be able to find it in five years.

STEP 3

Download before your access ends

Bundle access runs to the end of its term and then closes. Download every agenda and certificate you need before that date.
Do not leave this to the final week. If you hit a problem, you want time to raise a support ticket and get an answer.
Test your login to your regulator's portal well ahead of the deadline rather than on the day.

STEP 4

File and retain

Submit your declaration or attestation through your regulator's own portal, before their deadline.
Pay any renewal fee directly to your regulator. It is separate from anything you pay us.
Upload documents only if your regulator specifically asks, which usually means you have been selected for audit.
Keep your records afterwards. Regulators commonly require retention for five years.

What we provide, and what is yours to do

CPD House provides accredited courses, an agenda for each session, access records and an optional completion certificate once you finish every course in a bundle. Attending, declaring, and retaining your own records are yours. We cannot declare hours on your behalf, and we cannot advise on whether a particular hour will be accepted by your regulator.
