IRCC announced significant changes to enable the processing of most spousal sponsorship applications within a 12-month. More complex cases would need more time to process. Applicants who already filed an application will not have to wait an additional 12 months to have them finalized. IRCC will continue to process applications in the order they have been received.

The application package has also been changed among procedural changes to examine files faster. Applications already in the process may require a follow-up review if a final decision has not been made. The new application must meet new standards concerning recent changes.
